With self-catering accommodation now re-open for people to enjoy a staycation, people are flocking to our glorious county.

However, with so many places to choose from it’s sometimes hard to know which one is the best.

With golden beaches to build sandcastles to exploring acres of woodland bursting with wildlife, Devon is a great place for a getaway from home.

TripAdvisor has revealed the best holiday rentals in Devon and it looks like the majority of them are in North Devon.

This incredible barn sleeps 11 people with 3 bedrooms and bathrooms, making it great for a group staycation this summer.

It’s located right by some of Devon’s best attractions including beaches, national parks, zoos and children’s theme parks. You will even be able to see the Torrs on Dartmoor and also the coastline of Lyme Bay.

Blackdown Barn is a self-contained detached building in its own privately fenced grounds with high ceilings with timber beams it has a pool table and even gym equipment for you to stay active on your break away.

In the summer months, you can enjoy the shared heated outdoor pool which has a family BBQ and outside dining.

The property is owned by a family with 4 children and they’ve given much thought to the requirements of families or large groups.

They’ve stated that all bookings must comply with the current covid-19 government’s laws on household numbers.

This two bedroom holiday apartment offers gorgeous panoramic sea views over Capstone.

On the Rocks is on the first floor of a Grade 11 listed Georgian terrace which overlooks the Brockshole Field which also has grazing sheep!

Close to the beach and harbour you and your guests can explore the town and dine in some of the local restaurants.

It’s an ideal stay for four adults with one master bedroom and one twin bedroom, however, they stated that there is room for a travel cot in both bedrooms if needed.

One review said: ” This apartment is perfect if wanting to stay in Ilfracombe. Parking around the back in a designated bay is ideal. The owners have thought of everything, it’s super well-equipped, even towels are included!

“The views from the living room and main bedroom are stunning and I spent as long as I could staring out of the windows. It’s a short walk down to the harbour and all the restaurants and cafes etc, albeit a steep one back up but the views are worth the climb! There is a Tesco a few mins by car and an array of local businesses to buy from too. If I am ever in the area in the future I will 100% book here again.”

Bicclescombe Grange is a large detached house that’s situated on the outskirts of Ilfracombe.

It comes with an indoor heated swimming pool which you can enjoy regardless of the temperamental British weather and also a hot tub for when the sun is shining.

Guests can enjoy the 4-acres of grounds which also has adjoining open fields and countryside to explore.

They even have alpacas you can see in their enclosure set within the grounds.

There are many things in the house to entertain guests which include a pool table, dartboard, table tennis and a flat screen TV.

It sleeps up to 26 people with eight bedrooms and has been described by the host as “perfect for a luxury self-catering family holiday or a fantastic party venue to celebrate special birthdays or anniversaries”

It’s not far from Woolacombe, Croyde or Saunton either which means you can fill your days up by exploring the nearby beaches.

The cottage is situated over 5 floors and has been decorated in keeping with the age of the property but with a modern twist.

It sleeps up to eight guests with four bedrooms and three bathrooms.

One reviewer said: “This cottage has so much character, love it It is tastefully decorated and comfortable. We had a really relaxing stay.

“It has all the facilities you need and WIFI connection. Some lovely restaurants and pubs with food nearby. A few minutes walk to the sea and fishing port. Local fish and chips, ice cream and cream teas yummy. We went on a lovely walk across the headland to Lee and had a great pub lunch.”

The host has said that it’s the ideal accommodation for families and friends as it’s situated over three floors.

It has five bedrooms ranging from a double room, single room and even a bunk room.

Outside, guests can enjoy the sunny courtyard which has furniture and a BBQ for those summer months.

One reviewer said: “We have just got back after staying 1 week in this beautiful house. 3 generations and there was plenty of room in this well equipped house.

“With 2 beautiful bathrooms it made life easy. Court yard garden a pleasure to sit out in. Walking distance to town and shops and Harbour. Would highly recommend the property.”

Clarian Holiday apartment is located on the third floor of a privately owned apartment in a grade II listed Georgian building.

It has two bedrooms but can sleep up to four people for people to enjoy and feel relaxed.

They have stated that this apartment may not be suitable if you have mobility problems due to the stairs from the car park to the building.

One person who stayed said: “We all had a lovely time here in Ilfracombe, the apartment was perfectly placed from the town and the see and the apartment brilliant with a amazing view I would definitely recommend the apartment to anyone who wants a week or weekend away to a quiet and friendly town, I would 100% stay here again.”

Described as a ‘jewel’ by one past guest, The Snug is ideal for a romantic getaway.

The self-catering apartment gives two people views over Ilfracombe as it’s nestled in 15 acres of grassland for you to explore.

There’s one bedroom with one bathroom and they even allow pets for you to bring your furry friend on a staycation too.

One reviewer said: “Seated on a hillside in a quiet bit of Ilfracombe is a little jewel. The Snug is small enough to keep oh so warm and big enough for a small family. It sits close to many walks which is just perfect if you have a Dog.

“The Snug has a stunning view overlooking the town and on a clear day easily see Wales. Nicky & John, the owners are so friendly and welcoming with knowledge of the town and walks. On arrival there was a little surprise for us which was a lovely touch. Definitely going back.”
