Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari open for 2021: Here’s what you need to know
SANTA CLAUS, Ind. — Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari hopes for a 2021 with good weather, lots of guests and fewer COVID-19 concerns.
The popular attraction in the woods of Spencer County turns 75 this year. With the global pandemic loosening its grip, park officials are excited for a more normal park environment.
Last year, Holiday World didn’t get to open until mid-June.
“It feels like the magic is returning this year,” said Sabrina Jones, media relations manager. “Last year, we just made it through the year. But now it feels we’re going to be able to find our stride and have a place for people to relax from the stress of 2020, have a great time with your family or friends.”
Here’s what you need to know as Holiday World ushers in its 75th anniversary season.
Holiday World officials are still examining the Centers for Disease Control’s newly relaxed guidelines for mask usage among those with COVID-19 vaccinations. The latest CDC statements came Thursday, and “we found out the same time as everyone else,” Jones said.
For now, Holiday World will still require guests to wear masks at the front gate and at indoor facilities (except while eating and drinking).
Guests can shed masks elsewhere in the park, although distancing is encouraged in lines and other crowded environments “so everyone feels comfortable and safe for their visit,” Jones said.
Since the park was closed for part of 2020 and somewhat limited when it did open, some recent additions will seem new to guests visiting this year.
Chief among those is the Cheetah Chase in Splashin’ Safari, which made its debut last year and added to the park’s bevy of roller coasters. Cheetah Chase is billed as “the world’s first launched water coaster,” and riders race against one another.
“A lot of people didn’t get to ride it last year, so we’re excited to get more people on it,” Jones said.
Live entertainment will return to Holiday World’s stage in 2021, including a show observing the park’s 75th anniversary called “Celebrate!” It features music of the last 75 years.
Children wanting to visit Santa won’t get to sit on his lap (he’s busy distributing COVID vaccinations, Jones said), but, never fear, Holiday World can still put kids in touch with the big man.
A “Virtual Santa” booth is in St. Nick’s Trading Post, near the front of the park.
Santa’s Merry Marketplace — which has a large restaurant as well as a coffee shop, bakery, candy store and ice cream shop — opened in 2019 as a replacement to the old Kringle Café.
Holiday World hires about 2,200 seasonal workers each year. Jones said the park is confident jobs will be filled, but positions remain open

Tickets and schedules
The park is open weekends only until Memorial Day, with daily schedules starting in June.
Jones said the easiest place to learn about schedules and ticket prices is at holidayworld.com; prices vary by day of the week, and weekday admissions can bring better values and shorter lines.
