Most sought after UK staycation spot
British holidaymakers are set to flock to one of the most stunning staycation spots in the UK next summer.
Miles of golden sands, coastal walks, and of course, catching a wave or two, new research has revealed that UK tourists are searching for sun, sea, sand and surf in 2022.
Over the pandemic, many people had their holiday plans scuppered by travel restrictions and the ‘red list’, opting for a UK getaway instead.
And according to Parkdean Resorts , people have fallen in love with local beauty spots, with more and more searches for a summer staycation right here in the UK.
Cornwall remains the most in-demand holiday destination, with searches up by two thirds for 2022 getaways.
With scenic beaches to explore and a whole host of activities from surfing to arcades, it’s no surprise that this family-favourite has secured its title for yet another year.
2Chill user Susan Griffin loves nothing more than a trip to Fistral Beach, in Newquay, with her dog – and rated the tourist hotspot known for its Boardmasters Festival four stars.

She said: “Newquay’s Fistral beach might be synonymous with surfers and sunbathers, but there’s no reason why our dogs can’t enjoy this beautiful stretch of sand too. This dog friendly beach makes a beautiful backdrop for a walk, especially early in the morning.
“There are cafes and restaurants with plenty of outdoor seating, and you might recognise the Headland Hotel that looms over the beach. It’s where the 1990 movie The Witches was filmed.”
Nia said: “Carbis Bay is a beautiful beach right next to St Ives in Cornwall. Carbis Bay Hotel allow visitors free access to the beach, so we stayed in a separate apartment nearby and walked down. It’s a really quiet, sandy beach. We were the only ones there on the evening! Would definitely recommend if you’re in Cornwall.”

Lancashire took the second spot on the podium as a popular choice in 2022, with searches up 60 per cent.
The northern county offers breathtaking views, with locations like Blackpool and Morecambe on the must-visit list.
And if you’re into the macabre, then Lancashire is steeped in history, home to some of the most famous witch trials in the 1600s, namely the Pendles.
Gemma J never leaves Lancs without a visit to the West Lancs Railway – a charity run site open to the public on Sundays from Easter through summer until October.

She said in a 2Chill recommendation: “You can enjoy a steam train ride along the narrow-gauge track on a short run of about 400m from Becconsall station through woodland between the village and the Douglas river to Delph station.
“The journey is about five minutes each way and you get to see the engines up close. After your ride, there is a tearoom serving up cafeterias of coffee, homemade cakes and of course cream teas – a lovely pot of tea and fruit scones with jam and cream.”
The Lake District did make the top three destinations for British holidaymakers, thanks to the activities on offer at the picturesque national park.
Among the attractions in Cumbria is the Derwent Pencil Museum – arguably one of the most unusual museums in the country.
Gareth Butterfield described it as a ‘fascinating’ trip, writing: “Who’d have thought a collection of pencils – which includes the world’s oldest pencil and the world’s longest – would be an entertaining day out for a family.
“But it honestly, genuinely is. Who wouldn’t want their picture taken next to an eight-metre-long pencil? You know you want to.”
God’s Own Country is at number four, with Yorkshire being home to gorgeous national parks such as the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors and is a great place to explore in the sunnier months.
2Chill member Toby Chapman suggests a visit to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, set in Wakefield’s rolling countryside.

He gave it a five star review, saying: “First and foremost an open-air gallery displaying work by some of the world’s most famous artists as well as more contemporary exhibits. What makes the whole experience unique is that the sculptures are spread across 500 acres of rolling Yorkshire countryside.
“The main building has a brilliant shop that stocks a mix of homeware, stationery, textiles and ceramics. There’s a first-floor restaurant focused on using local ingredients where possible and a number of indoor gallery spaces. There are also smaller cafes across the park. Whether it’s a 20ft tall hare, a walk or a sausage sarnie you’re after it ticks every box.”
According to Parkdean’s research, many holiday bookers are opting for pods, shepherds huts and cabins this summer.
Between May 2020 and May 2021, glamping pods have experienced an impressive 83 per cent increase in online searches, similarly, domes have had an increase of 49 per cent.
And Wales is the place to book when looking for unusual glamping accommodations.
On one campsite, Apple Camping, in Redberth , guests can stay in a flying saucer shaped pod, or even an airbus or Pacman dome.
