Hawkeye Season Two Feels Inevitable
Barring any surprises, it looks like Marvel gave us its final present of the holidays: The season finale of Hawkeye. In a year that saw the debuts of everything from WandaVision to Loki, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings to (*gasps*) Spider-Man: No Way Home, it’s a wonder that we’re still standing at the end of it all, looking to the future.
That’s right. With a post-credits scene that merely, yet triumphantly, showed us more of Steve Rogers: The Musical, we’re already wondering whether or not Hawkeye will return for a second season. By the end of the season finale, Kate Bishop and Clint Barton are as happy as people should be at the end of a holiday story, celebrating Christmas together by burning the Ronin suit, of course. Meanwhile, it seems as if Maya Lopez and Yelena Belova each headed on their own paths, off to who knows where. Frankly, it’s all a welcome change for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, wrapping with a neat, tidy bow on the end of the story, instead of loading fans up on end-of-episode reveals and cameos. But, since we did love what we saw, let’s speculate on the show’s future in the wide world of Marvel.
When Will Hawkeye Season Two Debut?
Don’t get ahead of yourself. Marvel hasn’t announced anything about Hawkeye‘s future quite yet, unfortunately. If we even see another season, it’ll likely be after Echo—the Disney+ series starring Alaqua Cox’s Maya Lopez—debuts. Since Echo doesn’t even have a release date, we can safely rule out more Hawkeye episodes until 2023 at the earliest.

Where Could Hawkeye Season Two Go?
Let’s just say this up front: Unless there’s another Blip-like event in the MCU, we’ll most definitely see Hawkeye‘s major players again. That means Clint Barton, Kate Bishop, Yelena Belova, and Maya Lopez will all be back. Yes, even Barton, if you thought he’d hang it up on the ranch.
Here’s what Marvel producer Trinh Tran told CinePOP: “There are always new stories to be told, especially with Clint Barton. There is so much more to explore. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens, but it’s amazing to work with Jeremy. He loves his character, He’s the only person who really knows who Clint Barton is. I think there are possibilities. We’ll see.”
If we’re lucky, a hypothetical Hawkeye Season Two would keep the stakes low, since that’s what made it one of our favorite Marvel shows on Disney+ in the first place. Future episodes could focus on Barton fully initiating Bishop into the Avengers crew, as Tony Stark did for Peter Parker. The series would move Barton to the background, as Bishop whirls around New York City, dealing with street-level threats. Maybe Lopez and/or her new buddy Belova would come back for an episode or two. Or Matt Murdock’s Daredevil—anyone? More likely, though, we’ll just see the Hawkeye crew show up in future MCU adventures, nailing aliens, or Kang the Conquerer with trick arrows. Regardless, count everyone in for Avengers 5—and (hopefully) Steinfeld in the somehow-not-yet-announced Young Avengers project.
