Surrey pub garden where you can take a boat out on the Thames

While the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee bank holiday offers a wide range of activities for people to enjoy, a trip to a quality pub will be top of the list for many. But with the extra time off due to the celebrations, which acknowledge Queen Elizabeth II’s 70th year on the throne, you don’t want to be heading to just any old pub.

Instead you want to go somewhere which really shows off the best of Surrey; a place where, if the weather is behaving, you can catch some rays in a beautiful beer garden. This is exactly what is on offer for those who visit The Red Lion in Shepperton.

The pub, based in Russell Road, is situated on the banks of the River Thames and offers visitors an array of ales, craft beers and an all-day menu, using local ingredients. Whether you’re settling down for a Sunday roast or a smaller sandwich, the team have you covered in terms of catering.

But it is out the back of the pub where the real selling point is, with its large beer garden just mere metres from the edge of the river. Completed in the summer of 2016, the garden area offers an Ibiza-style experience with chilled music, an outdoor bar, and 25 metres of moorings right next to you.

This is also another unique aspect of the venue as you can hire a boat directly from the pub and take it out on the water. As long as you are 25 or over, you can hire a ‘PubTub’ for one hour at £75, two hours for £130, and three hours for £180.

It’s also well and truly getting into the jubilee spirit, as the pub hosted the Mayor of Runnymede council before the beacon lighting ceremony on Thursday (June 2) evening at the Grove. Throughout the bank holiday weekend you will be able to order jubilee-themed pizzas, cocktails and coronation chicken burgers.
